The Festival

The Festival committee is delighted to announce that Barnet Medieval Festival will return on the weekend of 8th-9th June 2024 at Byng Road playing fields. It will be a real pleasure to welcome back the wonderful re-enactors, traders and performers who make this event such a special weekend.

We are thrilled to share the poster for this year’s Festival and very grateful to Graham Turner for allowing us to use the central detail from his splendid painting of the Battle of Barnet. The artwork depicts Edward IV in the midst of battle and the original painting will be on display as part of Graham’s exhibition of medieval art at the Festival. The painting adorns the front cover of his illustrated history of The Wars of the Roses, which has recently been published and can be purchased at the Festival.

The Festival weekend offers an exciting programme of battle re-enactments, displays of cannon firing and archery, and demonstrations of mounted knights in combat. There will be plenty of opportunities to learn about medieval life from the living history encampments and craft displays and to enjoy performances of medieval music throughout the day. The ever-popular medieval market will provide ample opportunities for shopping and a range of food and drink stalls will keep you refreshed.

TICKETS are now on sale and can bought online or in person from our stall in The Spires shopping centre in Barnet, where we’ll be on Saturday 13th April from 10.30am onwards.

Barnet Medieval Festival is dedicated to engaging people in the history of the Battle of Barnet and its significance within the Wars of the Roses. Fought on 14th April 1471, the Battle of Barnet saw Edward IV lead his Yorkist army to victory against the Lancastrian forces led by the Earl of Warwick.

The annual Festival is organised by the Barnet Medieval Festival Committee, a registered charity formed with the aim of advancing the education of the public in the history of medieval life and warfare, with a focus on the history of the town of Barnet. It took on the role of organising the Festival from the Battle of Barnet Partnership (Barnet Museum, The Barnet Society and The Battlefields Trust), which delivered the Battle of Barnet Project funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund.
